Boys basketball: La Center 75, Elma 42

Only looking ahead as far as their first game, the Wildcats rolled in the district opener.

La Center (15-6) had as many points in the first quarter (16) as Elma had by halftime.

“We have a goal to cut down the net next Saturday, so we don’t want to overlook anyone,” La Center coach Jeremy Ecklund said. “We set the tone, there was great energy in the gym and we played with a ton of energy.”

La Center’s Hunter Ecklund led all scorers with 22 points, 15 points coming in the first half. He sat out the fourth quarter along with the rest of the Wildcats starters. Ecklund also had nine assists and six steals.

Avery Seter and Matt Bryant each scored 15 points, and Evan Norris had 10.

La Center (15-6) next faces Seton Catholic (9-11) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at King’s Way Christian High School for a berth to the district title game and the regional round of the state playoffs.
