Eli Hoover had 16 points and nine rebounds as the Eagles won for the fifth times in six games to stay alive in the 3A bi-district tournament.

Bay took a 52-50 lead in the last two minutes. Travion Weiss got fouled with 45 seconds to go and hit two free throws to make it 54-50.

Evergreen got fouled on its next possession, but missed both free throws — the Plainsmen were 1 for 7 from the line in the game — and Zachary Ross hit 1 of 2 free throws to put Bay up 55-50.

“We are peaking at the right time,” Bay coach Theo Mikaele said. “We started league 0-7, but all except for the Prairie games were really close, so we knew we could compete. We got our first league win on senior night. And the kids have shown so much heart in sticking together, and they’re playing well right now.”

The Eagles face another loser-out game Tuesday against Capital of Olympia at Foss High School in Tacoma.

Quadrese Teague added 10 points, and Eric Pyapolov had nine points and 11 rebounds.

Jeremy Harju paced Evergreen with 16 points.
