Skyview rallied from a sluggish first half to survive and advance in the 4A bi-district tournament.

Skyview will face Olympia at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma for a berth to state. If the Storm fall on Wednesday, they’ll get another chance to reach state with a game Friday against Bellarmine Prep or Kentwood.

“The way we played in the second half is what we wanted the whole time,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “Auburnd did a good job of controlling tempo in the first half, and creating opportunities for (Pa’Treon) Lee. He had seven free throws in the first half.”

But the Storm connected on back-to-back 3-pointers in the third quarter to spark Skyview into the lead.

“A few shots and a few stops got us going,” Gruhler said. “That’s what playoff basketball is all about.”

Alex Schumacher scored eight of his team-high 22 points in the fourth quarter as the Storm sealed the win.

Samaad Hector had 16 points, and Kyle Gruhler added 14.

“I’m proud of our toughness after not having a great start,” Gruhler said. “We’ve had to make a lot of trips up north, a lot of late evenings. But we battled until we got our legs under us and kept fighting.”
