Some Clark County districts sending students home early

Vancouver, Evergreen districts remain open as main storm approaches

It took only the first drifts of snow for area school districts to begin sending students home.

As the National Weather Service announced a winter storm warning, bringing with it 3 to 8 inches of snow, so too did schools announce closures and canceled activities.

Vancouver Public Schools will remain open, except at schools that typically end later in the day — Vancouver Flex Academy, Lieser Campus, Vancouver iTech Preparatory and Vancouver School of Arts and Academics — which are closing at 2:05 p.m. Students will be bused to their home middle school, where they will stay until middle schools are released when they will ride the middle school buses home. Parents have the option to pick their child up from school at 2:05 p.m.

Additionally, Vancouver Public Schools canceled after-school and evening activities for elementary, middle and high schools. Exceptions are optional practices until 4 p.m. for Skyview basketball, Columbia River basketball and Skyview Stormbots.

Here’s a round up of school cancellations announced so far:

  • Battle Ground Public Schools’ high school and middle campuses, including River HomeLink, CAM Academy and Summit View closed at 9:30 a.m. Primary schools, including Maple Grove and Daybreak Middle School, closed at 10:30 a.m. Adults must meet their child at their snow route stops, or else their children will be taken back to school. Snow route information is located on Battle Ground Public Schools’ website.
  • Camas School District will close early today. Regular bus routes are in effect. After-school and evening activities are canceled. Students will be released at the following times: high school at noon, middle schools at 12:15 p.m. and elementary schools at 1:10 p.m. There is no afternoon preschool, and there will be no middle school tours today. Students who would normally attend Extended Day or JWR programs will follow their emergency transportation plans.
  • Evergreen Public Schools has canceled all afternoon and evening activities.
  • Hockinson School District campuses will release two hours early. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled. There is no evening preschool, and afternoon buses will be on snow routes.
  • Ridgefield School District campuses will close three hours early. All afternoon and evening activities are canceled. Kindergarten students must be met at their bus stops.
  • The Washougal School District opened two hours late. Ammeter Road, Mabee Mines Road, Krogstead Road and Martin Road are on snow routes.
  • The Woodland School District has announced it was releasing students three hours early. All elevation buses are on snow routes.
  • The La Center School District announced a three-hour emergency early release. Afternoon buses will be on snow routes, and parents must receive students from bus at snow route bus stops

At private schools, the following closures have been announced.

  •  Firm Foundation Christian – Closed, posted: Tuesday at 07:14 a.m.
  •  Gardner School of Arts & Sciences – Closed, posted: Tuesday at 07:34 a.m.
  •  King’s Way – KWLC is closing at noon today. The DEN field trip will be back at the LC at 11:15 a.m. UPDATE Posted: Tuesday at 09:22 a.m.
  •  Meadow Glade Adventist Elem. – Early release, all afternoon and evening activities canceled. Staggered release: grades K-4 and older siblings at noon and grades 5-8 at 12:30 p.m., KidZone canceled. No afternoon bus routes. UPDATE Posted: Tuesday at 09:02 a.m.
  •  Three Rivers Christian – Early release,all afternoon and evening activities canceled. K-12 release at 11:30 a.m., Early Learning Centers close at 3 p.m. Posted: Tuesday at 09:12 a.m.
The Southwest Washington Child Care Consortium announced:
  • All SWCCC after school programs in the Ridgefield School District have been canceled and SWCCC full-day programs in the Ridgefield School District close at 12:30 p.m.
  • All SWCCC after school programs in the Evergreen School District have been canceled. SWCCC full-day programs in the Evergreen School District close at 3:45 p.m.
  • All SWCCC after school programs in the Battle Ground School District canceled. SWCCC full-day programs in the Battle Ground School District close at 10:30 a.m.
