Letter: City should be less hostile

By Gale Beagle, Vancouver
Published: February 22, 2018, 6:00am

The amount of money the city is spending on hostile benches in city parks and the amount of money the city is willing to spend to rebuild the C Street ramp to block the homeless from camping there is crazy. As Carrie Parks said in the Feb. 16 letter “Help homeless, don’t push aside,” using infrastructure to punish these people and to make their lives harder is just plain inhumane.

This same money should be enough to construct a building to provide a washer and dryer, showers and restrooms. Using bushes for restrooms and service stations for showers is far from ideal. I hope the new Vancouver mayor will take a look at this and decide to go in another direction.
