Russian roulette eyed in teen’s gun death

Police in the Portland suburb of Sherwood say a teen boy has died of a gunshot wound and investigators believe he may have been playing a game of Russian roulette.

Sherwood Police Captain Ty Hanlon said the boy died early Monday morning at a mobile home in Sherwood. The teen was dead by the time emergency responders arrived.

KOIN-TV reported that based on witness interviews, police believe that the teen showed up to the mobile home with a gun and fatally shot himself while playing Russian roulette.

Missing elderly woman is found dead

An 87-year-old Yakima County woman who was reported missing by her family has been found dead.

Police in Toppenish said Sunday afternoon that Mary Shattuck likely died of prolonged exposure to hazardous weather conditions and foul play was not suspected. According to local news reports, she was found dead in her Subaru Forester near Mabton.

Police had issued a silver alert for Shattuck last week. Shattuck was last seen at her doctor’s office in Toppenish.

2nd suspect arrested in shooting of bicyclist

Yakima police have arrested a second suspect in the fatal drive-by shooting of a bicyclist in May.

Yakima County prosecutors have charged Jeremiah Luciano Peralez, 19, with first-degree murder. Authorities say Peralez was driving the SUV that struck Emilio Phelan, 31, shortly before he was shot by a passenger in that vehicle.

Authorities say Phelan was killed after the suspects reportedly saw him flash a rival gang sign.

Both suspects are being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Man’s body found along Skykomish River

Authorities say a man’s body has been found along the banks of the Skykomish River east of Gold Bar.

The Snohomish County sheriff’s office said Monday that investigators believe it is a 44-year-old homeless man who has been living along the river for years.

A relative discovered the man’s body Monday morning downstream of Big Eddy Park. The relative had not heard from the man in several days and went looking for him.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, as well as the man’s identification.

Man wounded while trying to break up fight

A man trying to break up a fight was wounded when gunfire erupted during a New Year’s Eve gathering at an Oregon restaurant.

Prineville Police Chief Dale Cummins said Nicholas Ricks, 38, of Bend suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the early Monday shooting at the Crossroads BBQ Pit & Pub in Prineville.

KTVZ-TV reported that Ricks was taken to a hospital in critical condition Monday.

Authorities arrested Omar Araim, 26, of Prineville. He was found walking north of the restaurant. A handgun was recovered nearby.

Araim is in Crook County Jail on attempted murder, assault and other charges. He is expected to make an initial court appearance today.

Cummins said Ricks was among those trying to break up a fight between two women when Araim pulled out a gun and started firing.
