Letter: Charlie Brown was duped, too

It’s been 50 years since Lucy first yanked the football away from Charlie Brown. Today, the humor of Charles Schulz is richly symbolic.

Imagine President Trump’s tax plan as a political football, with loud-mouth Lucy symbolizing the Republican Party. She’s trying to persuade poor Charlie Brown, the gullible American electorate, that this time things will be different.

Forget about those Reagan and Bush tax cuts for large corporations. No need to recall the exploding deficits they created. Disregard the last 72 years where Democratic administrations have created more than twice as many jobs as Republican administrations.

This time, Lucy has absolutely promised to steady the ball. Charlie is in a dire need of a good job and desperately wants to kick the ball. So, again he accepts the challenge.

Charlie, wake up! Lucy always lies; it’s in her DNA. The ball will be pulled back and handed off to the multinational corporations. They own the ball and pay off Lucy. They’ll again use tax cuts to pay out dividends to their wealthy stockholders.

Charlie, your only real opportunity to kick the ball is by having someone dependable to steady it, not Lucy, not the Republican Party.
