Letter: A scam of a tax cut bill

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, has again shown contempt for her constituents. Besides phony telephone town halls, she voted for the Republicans’ tax-cut scam.

We know its major provisions provide large tax cuts for the corporations and the very well-heeled. We also know that by eliminating the federal mandate that you must buy health insurance, now the healthy can game the system, which will increase premiums beyond affordability. She talks a good one concerning children’s health, but she should realize that these people have children, too.

I think she forgot we have a sales tax in this state. Capping deductions at $10,000 for a combined sales tax paid or Oregon income tax paid and property taxes doesn’t cut it. This will hurt many Clark County residents starting in the 2018 tax year. Personal exemptions are gone. For a family of four, that’s more than $16,000. It forces a lot of people not to itemize and use the new $24,000 standard deduction for a married couple.

Herrera Beutler went all in for this scam that increases the deficit by $1.5 trillion. That’s serious dollars, folks. It was payback time for her wealthy donors.

Herrera Beutler has a first-class seat on the Trump train. November can’t come soon enough.
