I’m responding to Tony Sassone’s letter “Fight fire with fire,” (Dec. 30) regarding wanting a Democrat representing us who’ll not work with the Republicans.
I, and I think many others, are tired of the boomeranging back and forth between the Republicans and the Democrats. We do not need a Democratic “freedom caucus.” That simply blocks any possibility of moving forward on important policies. We need people who, while left of center, are still capable of working with the other side if it’s at all feasible.
Reportedly, most of the country wants to see members of Congress work together, and I want someone representing us who will do that. Sassone’s description of Carolyn Long as someone “who apparently wants to be civil, extend a hand across the aisle and compromise with the Republicans” sounds like someone I look forward to seeing in Washington.
