Letter: Beware highway robbery

By Lawrence Kingsbury, Battle Ground

Southwest Washington residents who are concerned about the cost of future tolling on the Oregon freeways should also be aware of the risk of onerous late payment fees associated with the tolls. According to a Dec. 15 story in USA Today (“Cashless toll fees: Tappan Zee Bridge, Cuomo Bridge stories mount”) a company that tolls bridges in New York City has been billing people who claim they never received the original tolling bills in the mail. Some of their costs exceed $1,000.

I would rather pay the sales tax in Washington than risk such highway robbery.
