Comcast speed boost goes live — but you have to activate it

PORTLAND — Comcast is boosting speeds on its most popular internet plans Tuesday across Oregon and Southwest Washington. To activate the higher speeds, customers must reset their modems — or, in some cases, upgrade them.

The faster speeds don’t come with a corresponding price increase, though Comcast raised rates last fall, as it does every year.

Here are Comcast’s new top speeds in four categories, along with standard rates and promotional rates:

• Performance Starter: 15 megabits per second, up from 10 Mbps (uploads remain at 2 Mbps.) It’s $52 a month, or $30 monthly for a limited period.

• Performance Plus: 60 Mbps, up from 55 Mbps (uploads remain at 5 Mbps.) It’s $67 a month, or $40 monthly during a promotional period.

• Performance Pro: 150 Mbps, up from 100 Mbps (uploads remain at 5 Mbps.) Monthly prices are $82, with a promotional price of $50 for a limited period.

• Blast Pro: 250 Mbps, up from 200 Mbps (uploads remain at 10 Mbps.) Monthly prices are $97, or $60 for a limited promotional period.
