Are you kidding me? The Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council just released its 2040 plan and, guess what, folks, its 2035 system map includes light rail on Interstate 5, and no third or fourth vehicle bridges to the east or west. Do they live under a rock?
Obviously they don’t commute to Portland for work, and have blinders on to the nonstop “rush hour” traffic happening all day long. Nor are they aware of the ever-increasing county population statistics and commuter traffic in the last 20 years. Nor can they recall that we voted three times against light rail. And apparently they’ve forgotten about the Columbia River Crossing debacle, too.
In addition to $292 million in our annual tax revenue, Oregon now wants more of Washington residents’ hard-earned money to cross I-5 and Interstate 205 with zero measurable improvements to our commute. How pathetic! Where is the outrage? It’s time we 70,000-plus commuters make our voices known and inundate the RTC with comments, at www.rtc.wa.gov.
