New McMenamin’s Kalama location to open April 20

Kalama Harbor Lodge, a new restaurant and hotel from the McMenamin’s chain of brewpubs, will open April 20.

The new facility, at 215 Hendrickson Drive, Kalama, will include a restaurant and lounge with wood stoves, a bar, a wraparound outdoor patio and a 40-room hotel. Rooms are available for reservation, with rates ranging from $115 to $225 per night.

Also opening are a brewery, gift shop and a rooftop bar. Meeting and event space will be offered for up to 125 people. McMenamin’s said the new facility’s aesthetic is inspired by Kalama’s Hawaiian and Native American history.

AARP Tax-Aide services returning Jan. 30

AARP will once again offer free tax filing assistance this year is currently training volunteers.

Tax assistance will be held this year in the following locations: Battle Ground Community Library, Camas Public Library, Cascade Park Community Library, Community Housing Resource Center, Marshall Community Center, Three Creeks Community Library, Fort Vancouver Regional Library, and Stevenson Community Library.

Some locations will start sooner than others, but Cascade Park Community Library will be the first and start assisting taxpayers on Jan. 30. Organizers encourage people to call locations to find their respective start dates.

Some locations take appointments, while others are first-come first-served.

Last year, more than 60 local tax-aide volunteers helped more than 3,000 local taxpayers file their returns.

Toyota adds 601,000 vehicles to air bag recalls

Toyota is recalling 601,000 more vehicles in the U.S. to replace defective and potentially deadly Takata air bag inflators.

The company says the recall covers the Toyota Corolla and Matrix, Scion xB, Lexus IS250 and 350, and the Lexus IS-F from 2009, 2010 and 2013. Also covered are the 2010 and 2013 Toyota 4-Runner, Lexus IS250C and 350C and Lexus GX460, as well as the 2009 and 2010 Toyota Yaris and Lexus ES350, and the 2013 Toyota Sienna.

Owners will be notified by March and dealers will replace front passenger inflators or air bag assemblies.

Employers posted fewer open jobs in November

Employers posted fewer open jobs in November, the second straight month of decline after openings reached a record high in September.

The Labor Department said Tuesday that the number of available jobs slipped 0.8 percent to 5.88 million, down from 5.93 million in October. September’s peak was 6.18 million.

Job openings are still 4.4 percent higher than a year ago.
