Orchards — Frontier Middle School’s Madeline McMillen held another holiday toy drive in 2017, surpassing the totals from her previous drive.

Last year, Madeline raised $2,600 by selling pies and cookies online and through crowd-funding sites. She used that money to buy 538 toys, which she donated to kids through the Children’s Home Society of Washington Vancouver Family Resource Center.

When she donated the toys, members at the resource center threw her a party and took her on a tour to further explain what they do. In 2016, Madeline raised $1,200 by selling baked goods and donated 110 toys to Toys for Tots.

Madeline has also hosted a book drive for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, volunteered at the Portland Rescue Mission and The Grotto’s Festival of Lights, and spent time as a Salvation Army bell ringer.
