PORTLAND — A 54-year-old Gresham man is in Clackamas County jail facing a variety of charges, including manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol, after he allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic and struck and killed a motorcycle operator on U.S. 26.

According to state troopers, Robert Walsh was driving his 2003 Chrysler Town and County Van westbound near Rhododendron on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. when he crossed into oncoming traffic.

Walsh struck a Harley Davidson operated by David Weiss, 71 of Forest Grove. Nancy Jo Ludwig, 70 of Hillsboro, was his passenger. Weiss died on the roadway, troopers said, and Ludwig was airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with serious injuries.

Walsh was booked into jail on manslaughter, assault, reckless driving, reckless endangering and driving under the influence of alcohol charges. He is being held on $507,500 bail.
