Letter: Boost schools, cut defense

As I read a recent letter asking people to vote against Evergreen Public Schools’ bond I was reminded of a quote by a former neighbor, a Boeing engineer: “Children are the future. I always vote yes for anything for the schools.”

I have followed his advice in every election in which I have voted. I’m 75 and now I’m the past. Perhaps someone would say I would have voted differently if I had understood the issues. I vote the way I do because I do understand the issues.

My main tax concern, which I have no say over, is how the federal government spends the taxes I pay every year. I am especially concerned about the over $2,000 per year, per person in the USA, that goes to killing innocent people and destroying their towns and countries. I’ll worry about local school funding when I see a reduction in Department of Defense spending and better leadership in Washington.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
