Letter: Government full of dim bulbs

By Richard Willerton, Vancouver

Research shows that the power needs of the human body averages 100 watts, of which the brain consumes 20 percent. So much for “dim bulbs.”

Perhaps because of this, God gave us toes as a means of finding furniture in the dark.

But, as nothing is foolproof for a well-motivated fool, God also gave us government.

Government’s greatest achievement is the invention of the “tax,” which can be defined by the following:

• A fine is a tax for doing wrong;

• A tax is a fine for doing right.

Remember that only the best and brightest serve in government, which can therefore be likened to a flashlight, illuminating our path through the darkness.

Please refrain from reminding me that the definition of a flashlight is a receptacle for dead batteries.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
