Reese Powell is an up-and-coming physician who struggles with the decision to continue her parents’ dynasty in pediatric medicine, even though she’s naturally drawn to the excitement of an emergency room. Best-selling author Susan Wiggs adds another layer of drama into the mix when she introduces Caleb Stolz, a man of Amish faith, into Reese’s life.

Caleb will do anything to protect his niece and nephew from harm, especially after becoming Hannah and Jonah’s legal guardian after their parents’ deaths. When Jonah is severely hurt in a farming accident, Caleb doesn’t hesitate to turn to modern medicine and technology, which is strictly forbidden in his Amish community.

Reese is excited to be a part of Jonah’s emergency team, but can’t help noticing Caleb’s plain attire and cautious, yet steady, demeanor in the emergency room. She takes Caleb under her wing, helping him navigate the layout of the hospital, the wires and tubes covering his nephew and the modern conveniences that most of us take for granted. Reese even coordinates a place for Caleb to stay while he’s in the city helping Jonah. It just happens to be next door to her apartment.

As Caleb and Reese become friends, each opens a new world to the other. Caleb models a life that’s quiet and humble. Reese is bold and full of energy. Slowly, they grow to appreciate each other and even consider what it would be like to live in the other’s world. They aren’t willing to give up their values to enter a romantic relationship, yet the chemistry is undeniable.

“Between You & Me” celebrates an unexpected love story. It explores the deep roots of faith, family and the possibility of starting over. Wiggs brings charm to an emotionally complex story.
