Independence Day patrols focus on impaired drivers

Clark County police departments are deploying extra officers for DUI enforcement on Independence Day.

The Vancouver, Washougal and Battle Ground police departments will participate in the heightened patrols. While July 4 is known for barbecues and cold beers, officers will be looking for drunk as well as drugged drivers, according to a VPD news release.

A grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission covers the overtime costs for the extra officers.

Police advise people who spot a potentially impaired driver to keep their distance and call 911.
