Weather Eye: Enjoy these next few days before that heat wave settles in

Saturday was a picture-perfect day with afternoon temperatures hovering around the 80-degree mark at 4 p.m. Did you notice how warm it was Friday night into Saturday morning here in Vancouver? The official low was 62 degrees. Our normal low is 56 degrees.

Today we see the afternoon highs jump into the mid-80s as the atmosphere warms slightly. Then one last trough of low pressure drops down from the Gulf Of Alaska and scoots across southern British Columbia. That will bring marine air in on Monday lingering into Tuesday. So, morning clouds will be on the menu with sunny afternoons. A slight chance of a light shower, sprinkles or drizzle anywhere in Western Washington but mainly along the coast and to our north. I have to mention the slightest chance of moisture.

Then the well-advertised heat wave begins Wednesday with highs pushing 90 degrees and highs at 90 or better Thursday through the weekend. There may be minor adjustments to the high temperatures as we move along in the week, but the main message is for hot, dry weather lasting into the following week.

The upcoming heat wave will last for a while, and with things so dry now, wildfires are a certain possibility. Be careful with any outdoor flames. Many counties will be banning any outdoor burning except fire pits and barbecues. By next weekend, Clark County will be a tinder box. Already a wild fire was burning on Friday in the eastern Gorge area and a few spot fires in the county.

Enjoy the next three days, and prepare for extended hot weather. We’ll chat Tuesday.
