Community Notebook: Moody shoots 3-over on first day at U.S. Amateur

Vancouver’s Graham Moody shot a 3-over 74 Monday on the first day of the U.S. Junior Amateur a Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.

Moody, who won the Class 3A state championship as a Mountain View freshman in May, is tied for 51st place. The top 64 golfers after Tuesday’s second day of stroke play advance to the match-play portion of the tournament, which is open to golfers 18 and under.

Moody advanced to the U.S. Amateur by placing second at the regional qualifying tournament last month at The Reserve in Aloha, Ore.

KWRL Babe Ruth advances to regionals

North Clark County-based KWRL Babe Ruth won the Southwest Washington 15-under regional title last weekend, advancing to the Pacific Northwest Regionals in Portland.

The team, known as the Roosters, beat Camas-Washougal and Harbor Baseball in the three-team double-elimination tournament in La Center.

The Roosters open regional play against Montana on July 23.

Maton wins Washougal 3-miler

Daniel Maton of Camas won the Washougal Dike 3-mile run organized by the Clark County Running Club on Wednesday.

The soon-to-be high school senior, covered the course in 15 minute, 9 seconds. That was five seconds ahead of Oscar Bauman, 45, of Vancouver.

Roselyn Martin, 15, was the fastest female. She finished 11th overall in 19:41.
