Clark County firefighters extinguished a garage fire off Northeast Minnehaha Street on Friday morning, preventing it from spreading to nearby apartments.

Fire District 6 and Vancouver Fire Department crews were dispatched shortly before 5 a.m. to the report of a commercial fire at the Crystal Creek Apartments, 2600 N.E. Minnehaha Street. The collection of apartment buildings is tucked between Minnehaha and Northeast 68th Street, just outside Vancouver city limits.

Crews arriving on scene saw a fully-involved fire burning a single garage next to an apartment unit, Fire District 6 public information officer Dave Schmitke said in an email.

“Because the fire involved a large apartment complex a similarly large number of fire engines and trucks were called in,” Schmitke said. Extra assets were needed in case the fire got out of control, he said.

The fire was quickly extinguished and did not spread to neighboring garages or apartments. No residents have been displaced, but that may change because of smoke damage to a single unit.

No one was hurt by the fire.

The Clark County Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate.
