Letter: Stand up against Trump’s words

By Eric Bjorkman, Vancouver

On July 16, President Trump had a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. His pro-Russian/Putin remarks during the ensuing press conference were at best cowardly, at worst anti-American.

I can’t help but remember the outcry when NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick dared take a knee during the national anthem. He was vilified by a good portion of this nation who felt that he was anti-God, anti-America, anti-just about everything else. It was easier to condemn him than confront the issues that he was trying to bring light to.

Will these same people be as vocal about the craziness that just came out of Trump’s mouth? I sure hope so. This was no sports star or some “Hollywood elite” saying these things; it was our president. Unfortunately, his inane words actually matter.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
