A transient man who possessed thousands of images of child pornography on his phone was sentenced Monday to more than four years in prison.

Colt L. Bailey, 25, pleaded guilty last month to three counts of first-degree possessing depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Bailey’s cousin and another woman contacted the Clark County Sheriff’s Office after finding suspected child pornography on his cellphone. Bailey had left his phone in one of the women’s cars.

The women found a folder on the phone containing more than 8,000 images of child pornography depicting girls between the ages of 5 and 10. They then turned the phone over to the sheriff’s office, the affidavit states.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the phone and discovered thousands of images of child pornography. One image depicted a child who appeared to be as young as 3, court records say.

During a police interview, Bailey admitted the phone was his and that he downloaded the images. Bailey reportedly said he is “sick and knows he has a problem,” according to court documents.

In addition to his 53-month sentence, Bailey will serve 36 months of community custody. He is not to have contact with minors, must participate in a sexual deviancy evaluation and treatment, and must register as a sex offender, court records show.
