A Battle Ground man who allegedly fired shots from his vehicle during an apparent bout of road rage made a first appearance Friday in Clark County Superior Court.

Damian J. Knox, 24, appeared on suspicion of drive-by shooting and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm stemming from the Thursday incident.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Thursday night for a gunfire call in the 16000 block of Northeast Beebe Road in Battle Ground.

Two people reported that a driver fired shots from his vehicle in response to a road rage-type incident.

The victim, Greg Kincaid, said a small gray or black car sped by, and he yelled at the driver to slow down.

The car traveled about a block farther and skidded to a stop. Kincaid then heard five shots come from the vehicle, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

A neighbor described the driver and said he thought it was Knox. The neighbor said it appeared Knox fired a revolver out of the driver’s window.

The car then sped off and went up Beebe Road, where Knox lives, the affidavit states.

Deputies went to Knox’s house and spoke with his father, who gave them permission to examine a Ruger revolver displayed in a glass cabinet, court documents say.

When Knox arrived home, he initially denied being the shooter. He said he had been working on his car and was driving it up and down the road when a man threw a rock at it.

Knox then admitted to his father what he had done, turned to the deputy and said, “I did it,” according to court documents.

Knox’s bail was set at $50,000 Friday.

He will be arraigned Aug. 10.
