In response to Peter Williamson’s “Witch hunt continues” comments of May 30 (Our Readers’ Views) and all others spreading the same misleading “witch hunt” message, I say, “Stop it already.”
If, as you believe, President Trump is guiltless, then let special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation run its course. Why? Because our fundamental policy of innocent-until-proven-guilty and constitutionally mandated judicial procedures will inevitably reveal the truth. If the truth corroborates your beliefs, then your loyalty to Trump is justified.
Until then, stop taking pot shots at a special counsel whose hands are legally and ethically tied. Mueller can’t respond (or leak) for fear of compromising the integrity of his investigation. Similar investigations have taken even longer to conclude. The investigation will be over when Mueller feels confident that his team has produced a fact-based report that fulfills his assigned mission.
With a president averaging 6.4 misleading claims or lies every single day (according to a Washington Post story published May 1), I’m obliged to give Mueller the benefit of doubt as well as the time he needs.
If you were falsely jailed for a crime, would you really want a time limit placed on an investigation that could produce indisputable evidence that would set you free?
