Letter: Cruelty is being rewarded

As immigration enforcement begins its campaign of separating Mexican mothers from their children, it allows me to look at the big picture. When House Speaker Paul Ryan blames the poor for a system that created them, I get nauseous. The Bible calls people like him wolves.

America’s problem now is that compassion has become a radical concept, and cruelty is being rewarded. I know people are sick of all this political correctness and I am, too — especially when sensitivity overwhelms truth. But as Americans, if we lose our decency and our civility, we lose our feelings of safety. Honesty and truth without compassion becomes cruelty.

Unfortunately, we have a president who promotes feral nastiness with relentless, juvenile self-pity.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
