What a mishmash of conflicting memos in a span of six days that culminated in an apparent overdose in misrepresentations aimed at terminating Clark County Animal Protection and Control Manager Paul Scarpelli. I shudder at the image of a very good public servant being “walked out of his workplace as his staff watched.”
That Scarpelli had a beer with colleagues in an afternoon off from his job, fulfilling responsibilities as a board member of the nonprofit Dog Owners Group in Clark County, is surely not legal or adequate grounds for termination. What a miscarriage of management! Or was it a very misguided mistake by Director of Community Development Mitch Nickolds, apparently a new manager, who hadn’t yet come to know the dedication and integrity of this 17-year veteran with no previous violations or investigations of any kind?
Perhaps Scarpelli’s only real mistake was in being blind to what is not inherent with him — deception.
