Letter: Think through school protection

By Russ Williams, Vancouver
Published: March 4, 2018, 6:00am

It seems like President Trump has again overlooked the details of implementing another program — this time proposing to assign responsibility for protecting classes to teachers.

Such a plan would include the costs and requirements of developing, implementing and maintaining a nationwide program to support the training and continuing qualification of our teachers and program administrators. Contracts and salaries would need to be revised to reflect added responsibilities, as well as costs for weapons, ammunition and training.

Perhaps it would be quicker, easier and less expensive to hire ex-military and law enforcement personnel to protect each classroom?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
