Letter: Time to ban the AR-15

By Lillian B. Christina, Vancouver
Published: March 15, 2018, 6:00am

It’s time to ban assault weapons. The AR-15 is a killing machine, period. It is not a weapon for use by homeowners for safety or hunting. The Second Amendment reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Webster’s defines “militia” as citizens enrolled and drilled as soldiers.

When citizens are gunned down in a massacre, blame is laid on the police, the FBI, mental illness, etc. Let’s put the blame on the president and Congress; they do nothing to protect the citizens who elected them, and they allow the National Rifle Association to run their agenda.

Arming teachers is a very bad idea. A handgun will not withstand an AR-15 in the hands of a killer.

Let’s address the elephant in the room: the AR-15. It is a killing machine. We need to remove this weapon from the hands of people who have no regard for life.

Enough talk! Action is needed. Ban the assault rifle now before another massacre occurs.

Support the business owners who have decided not to sell the AR-15 in their stores.

The life you save may be your own.
