Letter: Wait and see on North Korea

By Ken Alexander, Camas

I am both surprised and cautiously optimistic that our president has announced his intentions to meet with North Korea. However, as former Secretary of Defense William Perry has stated from his own experience as one who was involved in negotiations with the North Koreans two decades ago, unless this meeting has clear goals and desired outcomes, it could be incredibly damaging to the U.S.

Right now, I have no reason to trust that our president will actually carry through on his stated intentions, as I believe this is merely more bluster to take attention away from President Trump’s incredibly foolish behavior, both since and well before he became president. We will wait to see what happens.
