Prep highlights: Four-run eighth lifts Camas softball past Prairie

Bates’ two-run single sparks two-out rally

Payton Bates’ two-out, two-RBI single jumpstarted Camas’ four-run eighth inning to lead the Papermakers to a 4-1 nonleague softball victory over Prairie on Wednesday.

Prairie’s Hailey St. Peter tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI double in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

In the eighth, Bates’ two-RBI single was the first of three straight RBI hits for the Papermakers, followed by Kyli Obermiller (2 for 4) and Kennedy Ferguson (2 for 4) that made it a 5-1 Camas lead.

Sophie Franklin went 3 for 4 with two runs scored for Camas.

St. Peter and Ashley Shelton each had two hits for Prairie.

Stars of the day

• Hailey Paull, Mountain View softball, had a home run, five RBI and was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts in a 16-2 win over Washougal.

• Trevor Bentley, Grant Heiser and Gideon Malychewski, Camas baseball, all went 2 for 3 in a 11-2 win over Union.

• Jack Kolosvary, Columbia River boys soccer, scored two goals in a 5-0 win over Mark Morris.

• Myia O’Campo, Evergreen softball, went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and scored three runs in a 12-6 nonleague win over Union.

• Blaine Bea, Washougal baseball, went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI, plus picked up the win on the mound, striking out four over six innings in a 11-3 league-opening win over Woodland.

• Kaia Oliver, Ridgefield softball, struck out 13 batters in a 2-1 loss to Kelso.

• Daniel Copeland and Max Rose, Skyview baseball, combined for a 1-hit shutout of Battle Ground in a 9-0 4A GSHL win.

• Jackson Finn, Woodland boys soccer, scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of overtime to lift the Beavers to a 2-1 win over Hockinson.

• Lincoln Krog, Stevenson boys track and field, won the long jump (20-5) and triple jump (39-11) to help the Bulldogs win a five-team meet at King’s Way.

• Damon Casetta-Stubbs, King’s Way Christian baseball, gave up one run on two hits while striking out 10 over six innings as the Knights completed a sweep of Castle Rock with a 15-1 win.

• Connor Smith, Prairie baseball, went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI in a 7-3 win over Fort Vancouver.

• Sydnee Dyer, Seton Catholic girls track and field, won the 800 and 1,600 as Seton Catholic won a four-team meet at Castle Rock.
