Prep highlights: Hockinson rallies late to beat Columbia River

Colton Wheeler singled home Sawyer Racanelli with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Hockinson baseball team a 4-3 win over Columbia River on Wednesday.

The victory moved the Hawks into a tie with Columbia River for third place in the 2A Greater St. Helens League. Hockinson claims the No. 3 seed to the district tournament through a tiebreaker. Hockinson will play at Tumwater or Centralia to open district on Saturday. Columbia River is No. 4 and will open district at W.F. West.

There was a lot of action late after Hockinson took a 2-0 lead in the fourth without a hit.

Columbia River tied the game 2-2 on Sawyer Parkin’s bunt single in the top of the sixth.

Hockinson was hitless until the bottom of the seventh. Still, the Hawks took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth on an error and three walks.

Nick Alder’s two-out single in the top of the seventh tied the game 3-3.

Hockinson opened the bottom of the seventh with two outs. Sawyer Racanelli got the rally going with the Hawks’ first hit of the game, a single to left. After Canon Racanelli walked, Wheeler singled to center to score Sawyer Racanelli.

Stars of the day

• Sierra Kilmer, Skyview softball, hit a three-run walk-off home run to give the Storm a 6-5 win over Battle Ground and pull into a second-place tie in the 4A GSHL.

• Kennedy Ferguson, Camas softball, threw a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 10 in a 14-0 win over Heritage. Ferguson also drove in three runs.

• Coral Clark, La Center softball, went 4 for 5 with three runs, a triple and three RBI as La Center rallied to beat Fort Vancouver 13-10.
