TEL AVIV, Israel — Israel’s army said early Thursday Iranian forces based in Syria fired around 20 rockets at Israeli positions in the Golan Heights.

A number of the rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system and no Israeli injuries were reported, according to the Israel Defense Forces, or IDF.

A Syrian military source, state media and a monitoring group said Israeli missiles were earlier targeting regime sites in the Queintra region on the Syrian side of the border.

The same Syrian military source said at dawn Thursday a new round of missiles was launched at areas south of Kiswa, near the capital Damascus for a second consecutive day.

The military source and the Syrian state news agency SANA said the earlier Israeli missiles, which hit targets in Al-Baath City in Queintra, caused no casualties.

The military source told dpa that the regime’s air defenses confronted the attack and said at least 10 missiles were fired from al-Mezze military airport in the countryside west of Damascus.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also confirmed the missiles strikes and said Israeli planes were flying over the Queintra area.
