Clark County Public Health is gathering more information about an active case of tuberculosis at Skyview High School.

There is low risk of students, staff and the public contracting the disease, according to Clark County Public Health.

The agency was first alerted on May 1 of a possible tuberculosis case involving someone “associated with Skyview High School,” according to Clark County Public Health, which cannot disclose how the person is connected to the school due to health privacy laws. Public Health confirmed the diagnosis Monday, and alerted parents and staff by phone calls, emails and printed letters Friday.

Individuals who may have been in close contact with the diagnosed person will be notified directly in the coming days, and Public Health will offer screening at the high school to those individuals later this month. The evaluation may also spread to other locations where the diagnosed person spent long periods of time between July 1, 2017 and May 1. Public Health will directly notify individuals who are potentially at risk for infection.

Tuberculosis bacteria are spread through the air, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, usually over prolonged close contact with someone contagious.
