Letter: Herrera Beutler earns support

The Anti-Jaime Herrera Beutler machine is running untrue letters in The Columbian.

On May 8, Ken Alexander (“We need different leadership”) claimed Herrera Beutler votes with Donald Trump 90 percent of the time. Presidents and members of Congress don’t even vote on the same things. Read the Constitution.

Herrera Beutler’s votes agree with House GOP leadership 90 percent of the time, among the lowest for House Republicans. Sen. Patty Murray is at 97 percent, and Sen. Maria Cantwell is at 98 percent in their alignment with Senate Democratic leadership — among the highest.

On May 10, Dylan Normington (“Fire Herrera Beutler”) said Herrera Beutler couldn’t get her own party to pass legislation blocking Oregon’s interstate highway tolling plans.

Herrera Beutler inserted that amendment in HR 3354. It passed the House and awaits action in the Senate. Where are our senators on this? Don’t they understand the importance of this bill to Southwest Washington?

If you oppose Oregon’s tolls, and dislike party-line voters, you know what to do. Democrat Cantwell is up for re-election in November. Democrat Carolyn Long, an Oregonian whose family lives in Salem, wants Herrera Beutler’s seat in the House. Tell them no.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
