Clark County’s young guns of high school golf are making their presence known at the state golf tournaments on Tuesday.

Leading the way is Mountain View freshman Graham Moody is the first-round leader at the 3A boys tournament at The Creek at Qualchan in Spokane after shooting a 4-under 68.

Moody holds a one-shot lead over Danny Tiscareno of Lakeside-Seattle. Prairie’s Jacob Abrahamson is tied for sixth with a 72, and Prairie’s Dante Heitschmidt is tied for ninth at 73.

Ridgefield freshman Cade Bringhurst shot a 1-under 71 at the 2A boys tournament at Columbia Point in Richland. Bringhurst is two shots back of co-leaders Dylan Apodoca of Selah and Chase McIntosh of Liberty-Issaquah.

Camas freshman Owen Huntington shot a 1-over 73 on the first day of the 4A state boys tournament at Sun Willows Golf Club in Pacso, tying him for seventh.

Huntington started out with back-to-back birdies on the first two holes and did not miss a fairway with off the tee, Camas boys golf coach Ed Givens said.

“A freshman in high school out there playing with the big boys,” Givens said. “He was really solid, I was impressed.”

In the girls tournaments, La Center’s Taylor Entenman is just three shots back of the leader in second place after shooting a 72 at Hangman Valley in Spokane in the 1A/2B/1B tournament.

Washougal’s Kallie Sakamoto is in third in the 2A girls tournament at Horn Rapids in Richland. She shot a 78 and is six shots off the lead.

In the 4A girls tournament at Sun Willows in Pasco, Hailey Oster and Ashley Clark each shot a 1-over 73 to highlight a Camas squad that advanced five golfers past the day one cut.

Emma Cox shot a 76, Lauryn Tsukimura finished with an 80 and Abigail Jiang had an 82 for the Papermakers, who qualify to compete

“We’re tickled to death to get all five through.” Camas coach Bob Foster said.

Bellarmine Prep also sent five golfers into Day 2. With five in the top 11, the Lions will be hard to catch for the team title.
