Bagley Downs — The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction handed out nearly $1 million in grants to improve access to computer science and related educational programs. The only Clark County district to get some of that grant money was Vancouver Public Schools, which received $7,585. The grants can help districts, schools and nonprofits train teachers, as well as provide and upgrade technology. In addition, the grants help expand computer science access to groups of students who have historically been underrepresented in computer science programs and careers. “As our economy grows in advanced technology, our investment in that learning must grow with it,” Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal said in a release. “It is especially important that we ensure access to student populations who have not typically engaged in computer science education. This is key to our commitment to equity.”
