Letter: Light rail here makes sense

By Lynn Brown, Vancouver

Light rail coming to Clark County makes sense. Here is why. Portland’s light rail comes as far north as the Expo Center. C-Tran buses pick up light-rail passengers every day and bring them across the bridge. Sounds silly, doesn’t it?

Why not bring light rail to downtown Vancouver? The new waterfront could take advantage of it. People who never take public transportation are against it. Many of the same people don’t vote for school levies because they don’t have kids in school.

The region’s population has exploded over the last decade. All local transportation is in crisis mode. A 15-mile trip to anywhere in Portland takes an hour or more. Yes, Oregon has to fix the Rose Quarter mess. How about a multistate agreement that states fix the Rose Quarter without tolls and we take light rail? Everybody wins. Especially 70,000 commuters every day.
