Voting is a right and a privilege and, I would argue, a duty for all eligible citizens. Democratic governments only function well when citizens participate. Don’t assume your vote doesn’t matter. It does. A race in Virginia in 2017 was decided by a coin toss, because the votes were equal. Just one additional voter would have made the difference.
And don’t believe the myth that all politicians are alike, so it doesn’t matter who’s in office. It matters, so do your research. When researching, ignore the pundits, robocalls, TV ads and mailers — they are mostly factually challenged. Instead, look at legislative records, work history, community involvement, past experiences. Essentially, choose those who’d best fulfill the role of public servant and work for the benefit of all their constituents.
