Letter: Oppose offshore drilling

Our ocean is the most fascinating part of our world; it covers most of our home and yet we have only discovered 5 percent of it. This leaves 95 percent of our planet that we know close to nothing about, so many fascinating organisms to discover and learn about.

Unfortunately President Trump would like to push forth a new five-year plan to drill for oil off of all the Atlantic states’ shores. This causes many problems to arise in our future, such as potential oil spills that can harm our environment by dumping tons of oily drilling fluid and toxic carcinogens into the ocean and therefore harm us as individuals. There are so many benefits to halting offshore drilling as well that we need to take into consideration, such as economic benefits that come with investing in clean energy which in turn invests into a brighter future.
