A Camas physician died Thursday in a bicycle crash on Northwest Sierra Drive, according to the Camas Police Department.

Michael Myers, 51, was found dead at about 8 p.m. Thursday after he apparently crashed into the side of a house in the 4200 block of Northwest Sierra Drive, the department said in a news release Friday.

Officers had been searching for Myers since 4:30 p.m., when they took a report of an overdue or missing bicycle rider, the news release said.

Investigators determined that Myers was riding his bicycle north on Northwest Sierra Drive, which is a steep downgrade with many turns, when he crashed, according to the news release. It said there were was no evidence suggesting a vehicle was involved, and no witnesses to the incident were located.

Myers was a board-certified radiation oncologist who specialized in brachytherapy for prostate and gynecologic tumors, according to the website for PeaceHealth Medical Group, where he had recently worked.

On Monday, Myers had started a new job at the Tri-Cities Cancer Center in Kennewick, where he had previously worked in 2011 and 2012.

“Dr. Myers was an avid cyclist, a passionate doctor and a truly caring family man,” said Dr. Chuck DeGooyer, CEO of the cancer center, who said in a prepared statement that Myers “made a significant positive impression on our staff team, patients and physicians in the community.”

Myers is survived by his wife Yolanda and two sons, according to DeGooyer’s statement.
