For a team that made a habit of shutting teams out, the script was flipped on the Clark College women’s soccer team Sunday.

Peninsula of Port Angeles won its fourth Northwest Athletic Conference championship on Sunday, beating the Penguins 2-0 at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila.

This was the first appearance by the Penguins in the NWAC women’s final. They entered the championship match having outscored their last 14 opponents 57-1 with 13 shutouts.

Peninsula sophomore Samantha Guzman scored in the fourth minute of the match for her fifth goal of the season. Then sophomore Emilee Greve scored in the 15th minute on her untouched corner kick. It was her 13th goal of the season.

Peninsula (19-2-1) outshot Clark (14-2-1) 10-3 in the first half, but the Penguins had a 9-1 advantage in the second half. Peninsula had eight shots on goal to Clark’s five.

Peninsula was making the program’s seventh final in the last eight seasons. It was runner-up last year to Highline, and beat Highline in 2016 for the NWAC title. The Pirates also won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.
