On Nov. 18, 1928, something very special happened: Mickey Mouse made his official debut! Now 90 years young, Mickey Mouse continues to delight fans from all over the world. Who could have guessed way back in 1928 that a little mouse with big ears would have such a following for generations to come? Well done, Mickey!

For your reading pleasure, here is a list of Disney-related material available at the library. From how Walt Disney got his start to the resulting world-wide influence of Disney on culture, design and entertainment, the titles below present unique observations on Walt Disney himself as well as the Disney empire created and developed by Walt and his brother, Roy. In addition to books, the library has many of the Disney movies on DVD. I’m partial to the earlier classics like “Bambi” and “Lady and the Tramp,” but our collection isn’t limited to the older films, so be sure to check our catalog at www.fvrl.org. You’re probably familiar with Disney’s practice of placing home video releases “in the vault” which means a moratorium on sales. This can be disappointing if you want to buy your favorite Disney movie, and you have to wait until Disney decides to re-release it. Well, this happens to the library as well, so if you can’t locate a particular film in our holdings, more than likely we’re waiting along with everyone else until the title is released from the “Disney vault.” But we do have a lot of titles, so be sure to check us out.

Happy birthday, Mickey Mouse!
