PORTLAND — Authorities say a Vancouver man found dead on the Burnside Bridge in Portland died from a gunshot wound — just several hours after a Portland woman was found dead under the Morrison Bridge. A suspect has been arrested in the case.

James J. Barquet, 26, was arrested on charges of first-degree robbery, four counts of felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of aggravated murder. He is lodged in the Multnomah County Jail.

Authorities identified the two victims as Carol L. Horner, 70, of Portland, and Brian E. Hansen, 51, of Vancouver.

Police provided no motive late Tuesday morning.

KOIN reports that officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon shortly after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, officers found an unconscious man on the sidewalk in the middle of the bridge. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

What’s believed to be a shooting death happened less than four hours after a woman died from a gunshot wound under the Morrison Bridge, just a mile from the Burnside Bridge.
