Angst Gallery seeks artists to submit works for its annual Celebration of the Male Form exhibit, Jan. 4 through 26, with a First Friday opening reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 4. The exhibit is an opportunity to for artists to depict the male body in various mediums as a counterbalance to the art world’s emphasis on the feminine form. Intake of artwork will happen from 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 22 and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 2. Columbia River Chorus, a women’s a capella chorus, invites women 16 and older for a season of four-part harmony, laughter and fun. Rehearsals are open to anyone interested in joining and the ability to read music is not required. Vancouver Community Concert Band seeks brass, woodwind and percussion players, active and retired. All abilities welcome; no audition required. The volunteer community band, along with its polka band, Dixieland Jazz Band and chamber ensembles, performs regularly around the area. Vancouver Pops Orchestra seeks musicians who play orchestral instruments. The ensemble plays 20 to 25 45-minute assemblies each year in local grade schools. Rehearsals are 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays. Vancouver Master Chorale is holding auditions for its 2018-2019 season. The chorale does a full season of four concerts a year, including music from master choral works with an orchestra to Broadway pieces. The group also sings with the Vancouver Symphony. Vancouver Symphony Orchestra seeks student musicians to perform at its 25th annual Young Artists Competition on Jan. 13, competing for $5,250 in scholarships ($1000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place) and a chance to play with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on April 13 and 14. Applications are due to The Vancouver Symphony Office by 4 p.m. Dec. 4. Mail all materials to The Vancouver Symphony, P.O. Box 525, Vancouver, WA 98666. Applications are available at vancouversymphony.org. Students of 18 years of age or under as of Jan. 1, who reside in Washington or Oregon are eligible to compete in the categories of piano, strings and brass/woodwinds/percussion.
