Residents at Springwood Landing Gracious Retirement Living, 301 S.E. 136th Ave., Vancouver, celebrated the 100th birthday of resident Jack Grigsby on Nov. 18. Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle attended and gave Grigsby a birthday proclamation. Additionally, Vancouver Fire Department Station 8 Capt. Jason Ingram and his team were present to help extinguish Grigsby’s 100 candles. He was surrounded by friends and family, as well as his wife of 73 years, Florene, as the community celebrated his long and accomplished life and sang “Happy Birthday” and “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Grigsby was born and grew up in Cheyenne, Wyo. He served in the Navy for 20 years and worked at Crown Zellerbach before retiring. After retiring, he traveled to Thailand, England, Ireland, Wales and across the United States. He started a walking group called Osprey Walking, loves golf and cooking, and has been involved with the Freemasons and Old Fellows. He has two children, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
