Already a reliable part of one of the nation’s top cross country teams, Alexis Fuller is shifting into a higher gear.
The senior from Union High School ran her fastest 6,000-meter cross country time yet on Friday. In doing so, she helped Boise State place second at the 33-team Nuttycombe Invitational at the University of Wisconsin. The No. 5-ranked Broncos were behind only No. 2 Colorado.
Fuller already has a long list of accomplishments at Boise State, especially in track and field. She was an honorable mention All-American last spring, setting a school record in the 1,500 meters and placing 17th at the NCAA Championships. She was also a Mountain West Conference indoor champion in the mile and helped set a conference record in the distance medley relay.
Friday’s result shows Fuller is poised to have a big senior year. Her time of 20 minutes, 17 seconds was a 6,000-meter personal best by 19 seconds. It placed her 26th out of 230 runners, 40 places higher than last year at the same meet.
Fuller was the fourth-fastest Boise State runner. Allie Ostrander (5th), Emily Venters (9th) and Clare O’Brien (10th) have the Broncos set to compete for an NCAA title.
Also in Wisconsin, Emma Jenkins, a freshman from Camas, was the fastest Washington State runner. She finished 95th, covering the 6,000 meter course in 21:10.
