Art

Mosaic Arts Alliance is now accepting entries for December’s open exhibit, “You’ve Got to Have ART!” The nonjuried exhibit is open to artists creating 2D and 3D works and is limited to one entry per artist. Artists will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment of $25 entry fee will not be required until your entry is accepted. Entry deadline is Nov. 16 or until the entry limit is reached. Exhibition dates are Dec. 5 to 29 at Angst Gallery, 1015 Main St., Vancouver. Entry forms may be downloaded at www.mosaicartsalliance.org.

Friends of Vancouver Community Library seek artists to participate in the third annual Art4Art fundraiser. Each artist will be given an 8- by 8-inch wood panel on which to create art. Completed panels are donated back to the library to be sold at the fundraiser, which starts Dec. 7. The panels can be picked up at Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St. Deadline for returning the panels is Nov. 15. Call the library at 360-906-5000 for more information.

Music

Columbia River Chorus, a women’s a capella chorus, invites women 16 or older for a season of four-part harmony, laughter and fun. Anyone is welcome to come and visit; rehearsals are open to anyone interested in joining and the ability to read music is not required. Vancouver Community Concert Band seeks all brass, woodwind and percussion players, active and retired. All abilities welcome; no audition required. The volunteer community band, along with its polka band, Dixieland Jazz Band and chamber ensembles, performs regularly around the area. Vancouver Pops Orchestra seeks musicians who play orchestral instruments. The ensemble plays 20 to 25 45-minute assemblies each year in local grade schools. Rehearsals are 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays. Vancouver Master Chorale is holding auditions for its 2018-2019 season. The chorale does a full season of four concerts a year, including music from master choral works with an orchestra to Broadway pieces. The group also sings with the Vancouver Symphony. Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is looking for the next great student musicians to perform at its 25th annual Young Artists Competition on Jan. 13, when students will compete for $5,250 in scholarship money ($1000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place) and a chance to play with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on April 13 and 14. Applications must be received in The Vancouver Symphony Office by 4 p.m. Dec. 4. Mail all materials to The Vancouver Symphony, P.O. Box 525, Vancouver, WA 98666. Theater

Cherry Grove Friends Church seeks actors for “Once Upon a Christmas,” a dramatic Christmas musical based on Tolstoy’s “Where Love Is, God Is Also.” There are roles for baritones, sopranos, tenors, a mezzo soprano or alto and a high- or midrange boy, as well as four to eight carolers and a pianist. The vocalists and pianists should each prepare a short musical selection. All parts will be sung. Auditions will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 20, at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 21 or by appointment at Cherry Grove Church, 9100 N.E. 219th St., Battle Ground. The show will be performed in early December and rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons in November or as agreed upon by the actors. Magenta Theater seeks actors to audition for “Jeeves Takes a Bow,” a comedy based on the stories of P.G. Wodehouse. Auditions are at 5 p.m. on Nov. 11. The play will run Feb. 1- to 16. There are six roles with understudies and all adult actors will be considered; ages are flexible; English accents will be used where applicable. There are four male roles and two female roles. Rehearsals are Dec. 5 through Jan. 31, weekdays 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Headshots required, theater r?sum?s preferred.
