Letter: Kavanaugh’s history matters

By Megan Vaughn, Vancouver
Published: October 5, 2018, 6:00am

I want to be clear about why it matters whether Brett Kavanaugh assaulted girls and women in his past. Beyond the legality and beyond the malice of the acts themselves, this is a man who has made his career exerting power and control over women, nominated by a president who shows blatant disregard for women daily. Knowing that Kavanaugh has most likely exerted that power and control over women throughout his life means he isn’t fit to serve on the highest court in the land, essentially giving him the most powerful platform in America to control women.

Kavanaugh and Senate Republicans should be ashamed of their temper tantrum masquerading as a hearing last week and I, for one, am more excited to vote in the November election than ever.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
